Pool Fence Material Calculator

Calculate the number of fence panels, posts, gates, and concrete needed to fence your pool area.

Formulas Used

Fenced Perimeter:
P = 2 × ((Pool Length + 2 × Offset) + (Pool Width + 2 × Offset))

Net Fence Run:
Net Run = P − (Number of Gates × Panel Width)

Panels Required:
Panels = ⌈Net Run ÷ Panel Width⌉ × (1 + Waste%)

Posts Required:
Total Posts = (Panels + 4 corner posts) + (Gates × 2 gate posts)

Post Burial Depth (1/3 rule):
Burial Depth = Fence Height ÷ 2  (bury half the above-grade height)

Concrete Volume per Post Hole (cylinder):
V = π × r² × h  where r = hole radius (≈5 in), h = burial depth

60-lb Concrete Bags:
Bags = ⌈Total Concrete (ft³) ÷ 0.45 ft³/bag⌉

Horizontal Rails:
Rail Linear Ft = Panels × Panel Width × 2 rails × (1 + Waste%)

Assumptions & References

  • Minimum fence height of 4 ft is required by the International Residential Code (IRC) Section AG105 and most local pool codes.
